The Scout of the Year Award is a brand-new initiative led by State Youth Council that acknowledges and celebrates youth members who have contributed exceptionally to Scouting and the wider community. If you know a Joey, Cub, Scout, Venturer or Rover who has created positive change in their community, we encourage you to nominate them for this prestigious award.

New Online Forms Make Joining Scouts Simpler Than Ever
Scouts NSW launched new online forms for the Youth Membership (Y1), Rover Scout Membership (YA1), Adult Membership (A1) and Adult Helper (A2) applications. The updated forms include the introduction of workflows that will help make the experience seamless for the end user and make the endorsement process simple for Group Leaders and Rover Crew Leaders in Charge. Scouts NSW Partners with Return and Earn to Support Next Generation of Community Leaders

Scouts NSW is a major donation partner for the NSW Government’s Return and Earn program! From 27th May to 25th August, people can gift their refund to Scouts NSW when they take their eligible cans, bottles and cartons to one of the 318 Return and Earn reverse vending machines in NSW. All proceeds will go towards the Family Support Fund.

NEW YOUTH PROGRAM

1st Port Macquarie Scout Achieves first Australian Scout Medallion in NSW under the New Youth Program
Congratulations to Jordan from 1st Port Macquarie Scout Group for achieving the first Australian Scout Medallion in the State under the new Youth Program! Jordan achieved her ASM quickly after her Group began its transition to the Program in February 2019. She learnt about the Achievement Pathways within the New Youth Program and discovered she was close to achieving the Peak Award so she set out to fulfil the final requirements. BRAVO Jordan!

Special Needs Conference
Applications for the annual Special Needs Conference are now open. The conference will take place on 10-11 August at the Baden Powell Scout Centre, and provides adult Scouting members and youth members over 15 years old the information and resources to assist the delivery of Scouting to those with Special Needs. Applications to participate in the Scouts NSW Young Leader Development Program are now open, offering Venturers and Rovers aged 17-25 years old the opportunity to extend their thirst for leadership by becoming Adult Leaders. Join the Constitution Review Working Group
The Board of Scouts NSW has established a Constitution Review Working Group to look at outstanding items from the 2016 Review into Constitutional Reform. The Working Group are seeking volunteers to contribute to working through these items and making recommendations to the Board on potential amendments to the Constitution where they deem it appropriate.


If you have experience in the areas of governance, risk management, legal and corporate structures, and are interested in joining the Working Group, contact Luke Saunders, the Board Liaison for Constitutional Reform on 0431 011 412 or luke.saunders@nsw.scouts.com.au.

Have Your Say on the New WHS Procedure and Checklist
A new WHS Procedure - Design of Activity Structures (Permanent Construction) and Activity Structure Design Review Checklist have been prepared to apply to the design of new and modified permanent activity structures (e.g. at Activity Centres and Camps). The draft documents are open for review until 9am, Monday 10th June.

Scouts Urged to Follow Water Restrictions
Personnel at all Scout properties are reminded to adhere to water restrictions which have been recently enforced by most councils across NSW. These restrictions are expected to expand as drought conditions continue. Group Leaders and Camp Wardens are also reminded to check and fix any leaking taps to reduce water wastage. Child Safety in Scouting

Scouts Australia NSW is committed to operating as a child safe organisation and implementing child safe policies and practices in accordance with the elements of a child safe institution outlined by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse report entitled Creating Child Safe Institutions.

 

Remember

All suspicions, concerns or allegations about criminal matters or child protection matters should be reported directly to the Chief Commissioner, the Deputy Chief Commissioner (Youth Safety, Compliance and Support), the CEO or the Child Protection Officer at the NSW State Office.
To make a report use the online child protection form, call 02 9735 9000 or email childprotection@nsw.scouts.com.au.

 

Imminent Danger

If a young person is in imminent danger, the matter should be reported directly and immediately to NSW Police on 131 444.

Where a report is made to the police, you should also subsequently notify the NSW State Office.
